Heirloom Tomatoes
What’s the difference between heirloom tomatoes and regular tomatoes?
Heirloom tomatoes are the original tomato. They haven’t been changed or bred to lengthen storage time, make them the perfect shape or have better shipping ability. Heirlooms have thin skin, imperfect shapes, come in gorgeous colors and taste DELICIOUS! Heirlooms are the most flavorful tomatoes and our favorite to eat.
Do they taste any different?
Heirlooms are sweeter and less acidic than red hybrid tomatoes.
Pink heirlooms such as, German Johnson, offers the sweetest flavor. Deep red or purple heirloom tomatoes such as Cherokee Purple, have a rich flavor and are continually a favorite. Yellow heirlooms such as, German Striped, have an almost fruity flavor and minimally acidic. These are our personal favorite.
Are they really less acidic?
Do your research but, some varieties of heirlooms are less acidic. We find the yellow varieties to be the least acidic.
Whats your favorite way to eat them?
Raw with a little salt and pepper
BLT’s! YUMMY!!! Use a fresh loaf of bread, a large slice of German Striped tomato, fresh lettuce and thick bacon. We can eat these for lunch and dinner.
Fresh Pico/Salsa. The recipe below is similar to what we use other than we use lemon instead of lime juice.

Cherry Tomatoes
Summer locally grown cherry tomatoes are sweet like candy and a favorite way to eat them is just like Skittles. Pop one in your mouth and my goodness are they good. However, after the 10th pound of cherry tomatoes that I have consumed, it’s time for me to start utilizing other methods. Here are a few of my favorite ways:
